Cherbourg water quality improvement project

Delivered in partnership by the Australian Government and Queensland Government

Work has begun on the design and construction of water infrastructure upgrades in the Cherbourg community. The water infrastructure upgrades will include:

  • Bert Button Reservoir – a new reservoir, new mains and connections to supply the local area.
  • Town water mains replacement – approximately 2kms of water mains will be replaced throughout the community.
  • Water treatment plant - new raw water pump control system, filtration, dosing systems, UV treatment, associated pipework and modern control systems including SCADA.

The project team will consult with all stakeholders throughout the project. They will work closely with the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council and the local community to consider water safety and reliability issues.
